National Taco Day at La Vecindad: Homemade Tacos and a Torta Challenge You Have to See

La Vecindad was on live TV for National Taco Day, and the morning did not disappoint. Our owner, Junior, welcomed a news crew to the restaurant in the historic Commercial Center to show how our tacos are made and, of course, to eat a few.
It was Taco Tuesday and National Taco Day at the same time, which is about as good a reason to celebrate as a taco lover can ask for. Reporter JC Fernandez came by early in the morning to see what goes on behind the scenes, and by the time the cameras went live, the tacos were already coming out of the kitchen.
Made from scratch, every day
Everything starts with the tortillas. Ours are corn tortillas made by hand from scratch in our kitchen, and you can taste the difference in every taco. The team started making them early that morning, long before the first customers walked in, and that is how we do it every day.
Wash it down with a margarita
Tacos need a good margarita. Every Wednesday, we serve two-for-one margaritas, so bring a friend, order a round of tacos, and make it a midweek celebration.
The torta challenge
Junior also had a surprise: our Cuban torta, an enormous sandwich with a bit of everything and a personalized name on it. It comes as a challenge: finish it in under 23 minutes.
On live TV, JC Fernandez found out just how big it really is. His first question was the one everybody asks: do you cut it, pick it up, or just go for it? (The answer, according to Junior: you eat everything at once.) The studio hosts could hardly believe the size of it either.
Not feeling that brave? You can order it without the challenge and share it with the table.
A taste of the cartoon that inspired us
La Vecindad takes its name and its spirit from a classic Mexican cartoon, and that playful, over-the-top energy shows up in everything we do, from the costumed characters to the oversized tortas. We want eating here to feel like a party, not just a meal.
Come celebrate with us
Whether you come for the tacos, the margaritas or the torta challenge, La Vecindad is the place to celebrate. Bring your appetite, bring your friends, and tell us: is the challenge accepted?
